چکیده

Current dependence on fossil fuels to satisfy increasing energy needs has created an overabundance of CO2 emissions. This project aims to use a radio frequency (rf) plasma source to dissociate CO2 completely into solid carbon and gaseous oxygen to reduce CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere. An rf plasma excited by a double helix antenna with an axial magnetic field is used to create the CO2 discharge. This paper presents an analysis of the species present in the CO2 plasma based on data taken from a residual gas analyzer. The main products of the CO2 dissociation were found to be CO and O2. Future work will involve using an atmospheric pressure glow discharge for practical real world application to dissociate CO2.

Efficiency of CO2 Dissociation in a Radio-Frequency Discharge

One possible solution to mitigating the effects of high atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) is the use of a plasma source to break apart the molecule into carbon monoxide (CO) and oxygen. This work experimentally investigates the efficiency of dissociation of CO2 in a 1-kW radio-frequency (rf) plasma source operating at 13.56-MHz in a low-pressure discharge. Mass spectrometry dia...

Kinetic Model Study of Dry Reforming of Methane Using Cold Plasma

ABSTRACT In this work, the dry reforming of methane was studied using a corona and glow discharge plasma microreactors. A chemical kinetic model was developed to understand the reaction better. The modelization allowed prediction of the reactants conversion according to the energy transfer to the gas (P×τ). The β value is trait of the energy cost, whatever this value was leeser indicated ...

A Catalytic Sensor for Measurement of Radical Density in CO2 Plasmas

A catalytic sensor for the measurement of radical density in weakly ionized CO(2) plasmas, created in a low-pressure electrodeless discharge, is presented. The CO(2) plasma was created in a 4 cm wide borosilicate glass tube inside a copper coil connected to a radio frequency generator operating at 27.12 MHz with a nominal power of 250 W. The dissociation fraction of the CO(2) molecules was meas...

Effect of Embedded RF Pulsing for Selective Etching of SiO2 in the Dual-Frequency Capacitive Coupled Plasmas.

The characteristics of embedded pulse plasma using 60 MHz radio frequency as the source power and 2 MHz radio frequency as the bias power were investigated for the etching of SiO2 masked with an amorphous carbon layer (ACL) using an Ar/C4F8/O2 gas mixture. Especially, the effects of the different pulse duty ratio of the embedded dual-frequency pulsing between source power and bias power on the ...

Investigation of Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Source for CO2 Dissociation

This work experimentally investigates the dissociation of CO2 in an atmospheric pressure surface-wave discharge. A 2-kW microwave power supply is used to sustain the plasma contained in 1-cm-diameter quartz tube. Optical emission spectroscopy is recorded at varying axial positions along the quartz discharge tube to give evidence of the different species present. Diagnostics taken with a residua...
